Comments: The trends in recent Holsteiner breeding characterize this young Carano son: elegant, modern type with moderate bone structure have been carefully brought forward without the loss of the powerful jumping ability that is so celebrated in the Holsteiner breed.
Churchill was selected by October Hill Farm's head rider Erin Davis to be her next top competition horse. Working with agents in Holland, Erin imported this interesting prospect in late 2006 and has exciting plans for him. Says Erin, "We love his breeding, love his courage at the jumps, and I'm most excited about the feel I get when I ride him. It's just raw power. Even at the biggest jumps, I feel like there is so much more under me that I haven't used yet. It's the most amazing feeling."
As a rider, Erin has always sought out certain qualities in a horse she purchases for sport or resale. With Churchill, I was very intrigued by the pedigree, as was Wendy. We love Cassini and have had lots of his foals here that we've imported, and Carano is a full brother to Cassini. Carpaccio and Grundymann are also favorites. Churchill was a good choice for us in many ways.
Because Churchill is being developed for sport, his book is limited to only five mares per year, and at this time, the breeding fee is at an introductory level. This brilliant and gifted stallion promises to contribute in so many ways to the American breeder.

Show Record
Churchill, at only five years of age, is just beginning his sport career and in 2007 competed in YJC qualifiers with good results. An infection sidelined him late in the year and he is expected come out again during the end of 2008. A brilliant and scopey technique coupled with an elastic frame and carriage allow this talented youngster to excel over today's competitive courses. We expect Churchill to move rapidly in his training to become of of the most exciting up-and-comers. Watch for him in YJC events in 2008 and 2009.
Offspring
While focusing on career development, Churchill has been restricted in his breeding. October Hill Farm has produced one foal, a colt, from a Quite Capitol/Ramiro/Landgraf mare. A photo of this foal, Coolio OHS, will be found on the sales pages.
Churchill is a refined type, more modern, but very powerful, and is suited to cross with heavier mares, or mares with more substantial bone.
Ancestors
Carano
Sire Line Churchill is by the Capitol I son Carano, one of Denmark's most significant and most popular stallions. Carano, a Holsteiner by breeding, did not get the attention he deserved as a younger stallion, but in more recent years has been one of the most successful sires with a tremendous number of offspring competing at high levels both nationally and internationally. Carano has lead the DWB jumping index for four years in a row with a score of more than 190. He received "Stallion of the Year" honors in Denmark in 2004, most notably for the success of Cirvinia Skovvang, gold medal Elite Mare and "Mare of the Year", as well as for Cappucino D who won the Young Horse Championship in both dressage and show jumping. Also, it adds to the impression of the stallion's marvellous hereditability of show jumping quality that Carano sired the most expensive stallion, Cyrano S, at the Saturday afternoon stallion auction. Cyrona S was bought by a Swedish show jumping judge for DKK 290,000.
Capitol I
Carano carries the magnificent jumping genes of Capitol I, one of the greatest Holsteiner showjumping sires and father of forty approved stallions. Capitol I was richly endowed with the heritage of two great Thoroughbred descendants of the Bay Ronald line - Cottage Son xx and Manometer xx, and also carried a double cross of the influential Anglo-Arab, Ramzes. With a phenomenal breeding index of 182, he headed the FN young jumping stallion ratings. Capitol's dam, Folia, showed great jumping potential herself, and also produced the licensed stallions Latus I and II, as well as Capitol II, and famous daughters U-Capitola (dam of Lord Capitol from Lord and Quite Capitol from Quidam de Revel).
Cordelabryere
Carano's dam, Vision III, is by Cordelabryere, sire of more than 50 approved stallions including the Caletto and Calypso stallions. Vision III is also the dam of Lesotho by Landgraf I, and Baldini I and Baldini II by Bachus Z. This highly reputable family also produced the Olympic show jumping horses Lanciano (Phillipe Guerdat) and Lucilla II (Princess Haya), as well as the jumping stallion Boritas.
Carpaccio
Dam Line Churchill's dam, LaLuna, is by the Holsteiner stallion Carpaccio, a son of Caretino. Carpaccio was ranked in Holstein as #1 in the breeding index with a score of 145. He was champion of his 100 day test and won his class at the Bundeschampionat. He is the sire of the 2002 Approvals Champion Chico's Boy. The USEF national working hunter champion Cabardino is also by Carpaccio.
Caretino is one of those outstanding sires that produces both movement and jump in one beautiful package. He is the sire of numerous states premium mares and at least eighteen approved stallion sons. His sons Carpaccio, Cockney, and Cheenook are considered some of the best-moving stallions produced in Holstein. Caretino is by the fantastic sire Caletto II, winner of the 1980 stallion approvals and considered to be the embodiment of the Holsteiner breeding goal.
Grundyman xx
LaLuna's damsire is Grundymann, an English Thoroughbred which has made a lasting impression on Holsteiner breeding. Used as a refinement sire, he brought movement and jump to his offspring, which won DM 276,887 through 2001 in competition. Grundymann appears in the pedigree of the dressage sensation Sir Donnerhall.
