Comments: April 14, 2010 -- In a tragic turn of events, Amaretto D II, who had been set to begin a full schedule of breeding duties at Solomon Farm in South Dakota, was lost to an acute colic. We express our condolences to all his fans and friends. He will be greatly missed.

A winner of multiple Grand Prixs, including the Grand Prix of Kilkenny under Hugo Simon, and earned placings in many World Cup events across Europe and the United States. He is a full brother to Apricot D, winner of Olympic Silver in Barcelona, and is Zangershiede approved producer of top scoring foals and succesful jumpers here and abroad.

Amaretto D II offers the best in international bloodlines. His dam Gandria, who is a descendant of the "wonder mare" Fairness Z, was honored in Hannover, Germany, as having "The Best Mare Line in History." His sire Alexis Z produced multiple Grand Prix and World Cup competitors, and was ranked in the top 20 sires of show jumpers in the world. He is one of the few superior Alme descendents available for breeding in the United States.

Amaretto is available by frozen semen.

Offspring
Drachenhof Stud, the prior owners of AMARETTO D II, bred the stallion to many, many mares to continue the fabulous combination of bloodlines from Alexis and Gandria, but most of what we know of AMARETTO D II's produce record comes after his purchase by October Hill Farm in 1999. Otto Schalter of the RPSI informs us that the stallion has many foals who are very successful in the sport in Europe.

In the United States, AMARETTO D II has produced foals for both the AHS and the RPSI registries. In 2001, Avant Garde, bred and owned by Dr. Ellen Ziemer, received a score of 8.1 at the RPS inspections, and was one of the top five RPSI colts in North America. In 2002, Athena OHF, bred and owned by October Hill Farm, also received an overall score of 8.1, with an 8.2 on movement at the RPS inspections and was one of the top ten fillies. In 2002, Atalanta OHF received top comments from the AHS inspection judges who described her topline as "quite spectacular" and placed her in the top three foals presented at the site. Apollo OHF, Atlas OHF, and Amazin OHF, yearling foals presented in 2002 also received comments of "powerful", "wonderful gaits" and "super type" from the presiding judges.
